Wheel Chocks in Fremantle

Fremantle handles Western Australia’s container trade and a large share of its bulk and project cargo, and the heavy vehicles that move through the port, the Kwinana industrial strip and the freight routes inland are exactly the vehicles that must be chocked when parked or loaded. Carewell supplies wheel chocks to Fremantle and Perth operations, from port and transport yards to the mining supply chains that run through them.

Key points

  • Chocking parked and loading heavy vehicles and trailers is a work health and safety requirement, not an optional extra.
  • Fremantle’s port, the Kwinana industrial area and WA’s road freight network all involve constant heavy-vehicle movements that need chocks.
  • Chock material and size are matched to vehicle weight, tyre size and the surface (sealed, gravel, sloped).
  • Carewell can meet all your equipment and packaging needs in one place. Talk to our team and we will work to your required minimum order quantity.

The Fremantle and Perth picture

Fremantle Inner and Outer Harbours move containers, motor vehicles, livestock, grain and project cargo. Around them, the Kwinana industrial area, the Canning Vale and Forrestfield freight precincts, and the road and rail corridors east handle the vehicles feeding WA’s resources sector. Trucks, trailers, side-loaders, reach stackers and plant are being parked, coupled, uncoupled and loaded across all of it, and every one of those operations is a point where a wheel chock prevents a roll-away.

Where wheel chocks are needed here

  • Port and container yards: chocking trailers during container transfer and while decoupled.
  • Transport depots and distribution centres: chocking trucks and trailers at the dock during loading and unloading.
  • Mining and resources supply: chocking heavy vehicles and plant at laydown yards, workshops and remote sites, often on gravel or sloped ground.
  • Fuel, gas and bulk handling: chocking during transfer operations where a roll-away is a major hazard.

Choosing the right chock

Match the chock to the job, not the other way around:

  • Vehicle weight and tyre size set the chock size. A chock rated for a light truck will not hold a loaded prime mover.
  • Surface matters. Sealed hardstand suits a standard rubber or polyurethane chock; loose gravel and slopes need a larger, more aggressive-profile chock, sometimes with a spike or a connecting bar.
  • Handling counts on a busy yard. A chock with a handle or a rope, in a high-visibility colour, is quicker and safer to place and less likely to be left behind.
  • Environment: polyurethane resists fuel, oil and UV better than rubber for outdoor WA conditions.

The full technical detail, including how many chocks per vehicle and placement, is in the wheel chock guide.

Frequently asked questions

Do you supply wheel chocks in Fremantle and Perth?
Yes. We supply WA port, transport and resources operations with national distribution.

Do I legally have to chock a parked heavy vehicle?
Chocking parked and loading heavy vehicles and trailers is a work health and safety control that WHS regulators expect to see in place. See the wheel chock guide for the detail.

What chock do I need for gravel or a slope?
A larger chock with an aggressive profile, and sometimes a spike or connecting bar. A standard hardstand chock is not enough on loose or sloped ground.

Rubber or polyurethane?
Polyurethane resists fuel, oil and UV better for outdoor WA use; rubber is fine for sheltered hardstand.

Can you supply chocks for a specific vehicle or site?
Yes. We build vehicle-specific and branded chocks and will work to your minimum order quantity.
