What an eco-friendly parcel looks like
- Outer: a recycled-content kraft carton or a kraft paper mailer, right-sized to the product.

- Seal: water activated paper tape, printed in water-based inks if branded, so the carton recycles whole.

The claims, checked
“Recyclable”, “compostable”, “recycled content” and “bio-based” are different claims. The strongest practical one for shipping is that the whole carton goes in the kerbside paper bin with the tape on. Non-reinforced kraft gummed tape can also be industrially compostable (AS 4736); reinforced cannot, because of the fibreglass. Keep the supplier’s evidence for reporting. When the whole carton, including the tape, goes in the kerbside paper and cardboard bin with no step for the customer. A kraft carton with a paper-tape seal does this.
Is paper tape compostable?
Non-reinforced kraft gummed tape can meet industrial compostability (AS 4736). Reinforced tape cannot.
